Happy Halloween! (Red Team: GO!)

So this Halloween, I will not be at Vegoose (thank god) and sadly I will not be at Voodoo (unfortunately) ... But.. I will be at The Go! Team :) Hell yes. I discovered The Go! The Windesh Agency

The Windesh Agency is responsible for setting up major tours for important indie/electronic/hip hop acts. It formed in 2004 and in just a year they represent some very big names including: Adult., M83, RJD2, Animal Collective, !!!, Out Hud, godspeed you! black emperor, and the list just goes on. Their newest addition is Brothers Past out of Philadelphia, PA. Brothers Past is a band that I am a huge fan of and if you haven't heard them, I recommend clicking on the link and giving yourself a listen. They throw down some of the best electronica jams out there and will do some serious drum n bass and jungle. Brothers Past will be at Higher Ground on September 8th with The New Deal.

Who is Mike Jones?

I entered "Mike Jones" into the Google image search and I found myself on page 19 (I was going to stop if I didn't make it on the first twenty)!!

Now you all get to listen to the music of this amazing person (and no, I am not the rapper from Houston).

Fear Of Music
- The Final Show
- This a video of The Talking Heads cover band that I play in. We broke up and played a final show and then a "secret" show later that night where we played Stop Making Sense in its entirety. So since the break up, we have played one show and maybe we will be back together like we used to be in the fall .. Only time will tell.

Mister Holla - Taxi Cabs Can Start A Revolution - This is a solo track that I made. Not much to say about it except that I love the ending.

Panda Watch
- Panda Dub - Panda Watch is a 3-piece band that I play bass in. We got together in April to play at a festival in May. This track is recorded from that one show. We are still practicing and writing songs and we are looking for a keyboardist!!

MC Holla - It's Summertime (remix) - This is a remix of a song I made. This track is a year or two old and it came from my EP, The Burlington Project. I can give you a copy for free if you want.

The Ort Phenomenon - Out and In - This is band that I played in in High School. I loved this band. Not much else to say. Get down and dirty to it. I guess this song starts off kind of slow but then turns into a New Deal-ish type song. This other song, Providence, is a slow jam (and a love song), but one of my favorites and it is often found with a transition into Van Morrison's Moon Dance.

It's gonna get crunk!

In case you haven't read the latest news regarding The Anger Management 3 tour, Lil John and the Eastside Boyz are now on the already ridiculous line-up that includes 50, G-Unit, Eminem, D12, and so on. The remainder of the US dates are as follows:

7/26/2005 Cricket Pavilion - Phoenix, AZ
7/28/2005 Smirnoff Music Centre - Dallas, TX
7/29/2005 Verizon Wireless Amphitheater - Selma, TX
7/31/2005 HiFi Buys Amphitheatre - Atlanta, GA
8/1/2005 St. Pete Times Forum - Tampa, FL
8/2/2005 Sound Advice Amphitheatre - West Palm Beach, FL
8/5/2005 Nissan Pavilion at Stone Ridge - Bristow/Washington DC, VA
8/6/2005 Tweeter Center At The Waterfront - Camden (Philadelphia), NJ
8/8/2005 Madison Square Garden Arena - New York, NY
8/9/2005 Madison Square Garden Arena - New York, NY
8/10/2005 Tweeter Center For The Perf. Arts - Mansfield (Boston), MA
8/12/2005 Comerica Park - Detroit, MI

I recommend going to one of the NYC shows. 50 Cent will be appearing at a book signing in the Virgin Mega Store in Union Square at 11 AM on August 9.

10 Years

Growing up as a kid, I always wanted to visit Asbury Park. Not for the romantic Jersey Shore, but for the music scene that existed in NJ. Ska bands, local heroes, such as Inspector 7, Catch 22, Professor Plum .. Would be names that I would always associate with Asbury Park. I was also always told that Asbury Park was not a safe neighborhood.

Five years ago, I began following my favorite band around, The Disco Biscuits. Ten years ago, the band started playing. All three ends to my story met up at The Stone Pony this past weekend for the Disco Biscuits 10 year anniversary show. The show was amazing and the setlist was as follows:

07/23/05 Stone Pony - Outdoor Stage
Asbury Park, NJ

Ten Year Anniversary Bash

Set I: Jam> Munchkin Invasion (1), Svenghali> Helicopters (1), Little Lai, 7-11> Svenghali

Set II: 42, Magellan, Crickets> Story Of The World> Crickets (2)> Story Of The World

Encore: The Overture

(1) completes 7/22/05
(2) unfinished; with "We Want the Funk" Jam

When I arrived to Asbury Park, the beach was flooded with crazy floats. Parking is free there, however, you have to pay to step onto the beach. Boardwalk is free!

The scene has a bit of a Coney Island feel.

Also, if you ever happen to be in the luxurious Asbury Park, I highly recommend staying at Berekely (seen below). Poppa John's will deliver to you!!

And now for pictures of the band!!

And the crowd...

And a video clip!

Gordon Stone pics

A few weeks ago, I saw the Gordon Stone Band play a free show at Battery Park. The band was good and consistent, as usual. If you haven't seen a show in Battery Park yet, I suggest that you do. The scene is very friendly (family-oriented) and you are guaranteed to run into someone you know. Also, evening shows have great sunsets! Here are some pictures and video clips.

Often Imitated, Never Douplicated.

I don't understand Hollywood today. It seems that every day, some asshole producer decides that he/she is going to either a) remake a classic film or b) take a classic book and turn it into a movie. Success? Sure. Everyone floods the box office. However, what message are we relaying to the youth, who already has it bad enough growing up on shows like Spongebob and Doug+Rugrats with different character voices. Now instead of using their imagination and the pages of the book to know the Cat In The Hat story, they must rely on this???

This is Mike Myers!! I wish these actors would have some sense and realize that there is no place in Hollywood for a Cat In The Hat movie, especially now (where we can assume that there will be no magic in it). As you may have guessed, this rant is brought on by the new Willy Wonka flick.

I could go on to write pages of complaints with this movie, but I will start with some positives. Visually, the movie is amazing. Lots of high contrast shots that remind me classic scenes like the red and white bathroom in Silence of the Lambs. However, the characters in this new one are horrible... Especially Willy Wonka. It is Johnny Depp, playing that same role he has been playing since Fear and Loathing. Also, there is no sense of a genuine person behind the darkness, like in the original. In this flick, Wonka just seems like a creeper.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who hates on remakes.

Ska is dead. Is it?

The Pilfers are playing a reunion show!!! Nov 4th @ The Knitting Factory Doors @ 6pm $10 in advance $15 @ the door. Tickets don't appear to be up on the website, but I will keep everyone informed. Click here to listen to Why by The Pilfers.

Unfortunately, on Sunday July 17, Laurel Aiken passed away. Aitken was known as the "Godfather of Ska" and his music has influenced a world of people. He was one of my heroes growing up and he will truly be missed. If you have never heard the man, he is like the Temptations of ska. Just truly sexy, honest, sensual music.

While on the topic, legendary ska band, The Skatalites, have a few dates confirmed. Sadly, it looks as only one of the original members is in the band, but regardless, the shows should be amazing.

Dub Is A Weapon.

So last week I saw Dub Is A Weapon, after a solid year or two of hearing buzz about them. Sadly, I was first person to start dancing to them... Everyone was huddled in the back of the venue looking on, but not wanting to get too close. Dub music is wonderful, but it is something that is generally created in studios, not really done live; Seeing Dub Is A Weapon is like seeing The Roots live, maybe... Whereas you get to see all the instruments and all the effects that are being used. The band seriously kicks ass. I got sucked into a trance and just couldn't stop dancing. I was, (also) sadly, the only person there who knew how to skank. Femi Kuti was awesome as well.. 14 piece band with crazy booty dancers and real full-on sound. Here are photos.
