So what now?<br /><br />Well the band has revamped their website and has posted all sorts of information as to what they have been up to. <br /><br />The news they seem most excited about is all of their dj and remix projects. Her performance in Montreal was solid. She opened it up with Blah Blah and worked her way through most of the hot tracks that you have heard from her: Cha-Ching, Random, Fiddle With The Volume (<span style="font-weight:bold;">Ghislain Poirie</span> remix version), A Little Bit of Shhh!, The Broom, The Tango, and Sad Ass Strippa. The highlights of the show were 9-5, and then the catchy dance tune Hoodie followed by Public Warning to close the show. Public Warning has the hot garage/rave beats going on in it and <span style="font-weight:bold;">SOV </span>spits it mad fast. Throughout the show, <span style="font-weight:bold;">SOV</span> was complaining about the bass in her speaker. I didn't think too much of it, however, after reading the <a href=" http://www.philebrity.com/index.php?p=1579">Philebrity</a> review of the Philly show, I am beginning to wonder what is going on with her sound crew. I was saddened to see that she peaced out of a gig cause of bad sound ... That sounds like <span style="font-weight:bold;">Axl Rose</span> material and at 19 years old, there is no need for that big of an ego ... Even if your shit is hot. These guys fucking rock. (I feel like I start every concert review this way). Anyways, they played a lot of the newer stuff off of The Warriors Code such as Citizen CIA, Warriors Code, Sunshine Highway, and Captain Kelly's Highway. Older favorites were played too such as Boys On The Docks and Barroom Hero, Gang's All Here, and then everything inbetween. The girls came on stage for Spicy and everyone else for Skinhead. I've never seen a bad show by these guys. They just have so much heart. Peaches and I are good friends and she actually used to come to my shows in the 90's, so I think we have influenced each other. Miss Kitten is amazing and has really inspired my djing.</span><br /><br />Do you have a preference between doing live shows vs. DJ sets?<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">I will always love being a live performer first and foremost, although I absolutely love Djing too. Almost every girl or woman I know hates their body and has eating issues. I address that in my album in songs like Perfect or Famous.</span><br /><br />Barbie Dolls?<br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Ditto. </span><br /><br />Do you feel that the agencies need to tone down their campaigns and marketing strategies? Do people need to not be so sensitive and moldable (people blaming eating disorders on models, etc.)?<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">I definitely think there should be options shown as to what is beautiful. Women shouldn't feel the need to look like models, who are already skinny, and then airbrushed on top of it to be even more flawless. The models shouldn't be blamed, it's the people who run magazines and make ads and even record companies and TV shows that only hire and promote thin women. There is a double standard for men and women in entertainment, although more and more that is changing and men now feel the pressure to have a 6 pack too!</span><br /><br />In one of your songs you talk about how everyone is quick to compare you to<br />Lil? Kim. Does this annoy you? Are there artists that you wish you were<br />compared to more? Artists you wish you were compared to less?<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">It used to annoy me now I don't care anymore. People have to put you in little boxes to understand you. I love Lil Kim anyway. But I always felt like a hybrid of artists- like Lil Kim mixed with David Bowie. Or Kool Keith mixed with Chrissy Hynde!</span><br /><br />There is a lot of hype about you in the indie scene, especially online<br />through media like Myspace.com and various blogs. Is the hip-hop scene as<br />responsive to your music as the indie kids are?<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">I definitely have fans in both the hip-hop scene, indie scene, and electronic dance scene. My last album had Bahamadia, Kool Keith, High & MIghty, etc. and this new one has Jacques Lu Cont, Armand Van Helden, Todd Terry and was executive produced by Arthur Baker. It happens every Friday or every other Friday and usually consists of about 3-5 people dancing to Infected Mushroom with a fog machine going off every 5 minutes in the background. The openers were two bands that I enjoy, <span style="font-weight:bold;">Death From Above 1979</span> and <span style="font-weight:bold;">Queens of the Stone Age</span>. <span style="font-weight:bold;">DFA 1979</span> fucking rocked. It is a drum and bass duo. I love bands that rock. <span style="font-weight:bold;">Nine Inch Nails</span>' Closer was one of the first music videos I remember seeing back in the early 90s. It was very nostalgic to see <span style="font-weight:bold;">NIN</span>, but not nostalgic like seeing <span style="font-weight:bold;">Dispatch</span> or <span style="font-weight:bold;">Raffi</span> or someone you used to listen to as a kid, but nostalgic in a sense that I was seeing someone I related to on such a personal level as a kid. I was a kid with teen angst. You know, I never cut myself but I know people that did. Hearing Trent play Hurt, last night, stripped down with just keyboard and vocals, must have brought tears to all the cutters, because it got me pretty choked up. Everyone in the crowd was singing and lighters were in the air it was very emotional; Hurt was the highlight of the show. What else did they play? Permanent Hangover is really catchy. The duo hails from Pittsburgh, PA and their music reflects their love for their homeland. Songs played include: Spaceship, I'll Fly Away, Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, Slow Jamz, The New Workout Plan, Get Em' High, Crack Music, Hey Momma, Roses, and Diamonds. During Gold Digger, Kanye shouted, "White people... It's the only chance you'll ever have to say Nigger!". More <span style="font-weight:bold;">Kanye</span> antics, included him displaying distasteful quotes (mainly talking about how cocky and big-egoed he is) people have said about him, on a backdrop behind him. Although I am a huge <span style="font-weight:bold;">Ween</span> fan on album, I decided that I am not so much a fan of their live show. They sounded good at what they were doing, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I wanted to dance and I just found it hard to rock out, although hardcore <span style="font-weight:bold;">Ween</span> fans would call me crazy. I don't really know what they played other than Bananas and Blow, Voodoo Lady, and The Blarney Stone. I recommend any <span style="font-weight:bold;">Beck</span> fan see this man next time he tours. He played everything I wanted to hear except for New Pollution and Deadweight. It was very wired to see <span style="font-weight:bold;">Beck</span> in person, especially since his music has been involved in my life since Loser came out when I was in elementary school. He had a very tight band and crazy-ass tambourine player. At first I thought they reminded me a lot like <span style="font-weight:bold;">Metric</span>, but now I don't think so. They are relatively new and have toured with <span style="font-weight:bold;">Duran Duran</span> and now have a slot at the upcoming <a href="http://acrossthenarrows.com/"><span style="font-weight:bold;">Across The Narrows festival</span></a>. It's nice to see the bassist, Dan (<span style="font-weight:bold;">The New Deal</span>), involved in something totally different. I'm going to hype up this band as much as I can. I think that after this weekend, the NYC bloggers will pick up on this incredible band. She had a person who switched between guitar and drums, and then another person who looked like he was controlling the beats. It was a mix between <span style="font-weight:bold;">Annie's</span> vocals not being loud enough and the beat with the live guitar player not translating so well. Chewing Gum came on and it sounded a bit weird with the guitarist, but everyone still got down.. Simply because it was Chewing Gum. After Chewing Gum, Annie left the stage for a bit. When she came back, the show was rocking. Her vocals were a lot stronger and more consistent. She played a new song, Wedding, which will be coming out on the upcoming DJ Kicks. The highlight of the show was Come Together. On the album the song runs close to eight minutes and I don't know if the beat was extended for the concert or not, but it seemed to just drop forever and I got stuck in a dance trance and just couldn't stop dancing. After the show I got to meet <span style="font-weight:bold;">Annie </span>and she was sweeter than I imagined. She took the time to sign whomever wanted stuff signed and took the time to chat for a bit. Obviously, I felt like a 16 year old at a <span style="font-weight:bold;">New Kids On The Block</span> concert and my heart didn't stop racing, but that's a different story. Go see <span style="font-weight:bold;">Annie</span> if you get the chance and if you get the chance to talk to her or her band, do so! My one complaint: ANNIE... There was an element of informality on stage with lots of side banter and taking time to start songs off, that made the whole venue seem very relaxed and casual. Electron does not play too often, due the members all having full-time projects. It seems that every day, some asshole producer decides that he/she is going to either a) remake a classic film or b) take a classic book and turn it into a movie. Success? Sure. Everyone floods the box office. However, what message are we relaying to the youth, who already has it bad enough growing up on shows like Spongebob and Doug+Rugrats with different character voices. Now instead of using their imagination and the pages of the book to know the Cat In The Hat story, they must rely on this???<br /><br /><img src="http://www.killermovies.com/images/c/thecatinthehat/cat_in_the_hat_001.jpg"><br /><br />This is Mike Myers!! I wish these actors would have some sense and realize that there is no place in Hollywood for a Cat In The Hat movie, especially now (where we can assume that there will be no magic in it). As you may have guessed, this rant is brought on by the new Willy Wonka flick. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.hollywoodjesus.com/movie/charlie_chocolate/08.jpg"><br /><br />I could go on to write pages of complaints with this movie, but I will start with some positives. Visually, the movie is amazing. Lots of high contrast shots that remind me classic scenes like the red and white bathroom in Silence of the Lambs. However, the characters in this new one are horrible... Especially Willy Wonka. It is Johnny Depp, playing that same role he has been playing since Fear and Loathing. Also, there is no sense of a genuine person behind the darkness, like in the original. Sadly, I was first person to start dancing to them... Everyone was huddled in the back of the venue looking on, but not wanting to get too close. Dub music is wonderful, but it is something that is generally created in studios, not really done live; Seeing Dub Is A Weapon is like seeing The Roots live, maybe... Whereas you get to see all the instruments and all the effects that are being used. The band seriously kicks ass. I got sucked into a trance and just couldn't stop dancing. I was, (also) sadly, the only person there who knew how to <a href="http://www.musicdish.com/img/article/2003-06/ns_Dancers.jpg"><span style="font-weight:bold;">skank</span></a>. Femi Kuti was awesome as well.. 14 piece band with crazy booty dancers and real full-on sound.
